"For some people, having "serious" pictures taken is as stress provoking as going to see the dentist. In my mind, HPCA website pictures are serious pictures so I had some misgivings about having some taken. I had considered collecting a number of old pictures, old and new, good and bad to show to Alan to help him get it right. At the last moment, I decided to risk it all and went in cold, just bringing two sets of clothes along (formal and informal).
To my great surprise, Alan did not stick me in front of the camera right away. We talked about this and that, he showed me his studio and the various awards he had won and then just gently invited me in front of the camera. His manner was relaxing and gentle, his tips on posture and poses were given softly, and he taught me at least another dozen of words to elicit a smile instead of Cheese. A few flashes, a few changes in poses and we were done!
Another benefit, I get to run the pictures by my significant other before submitting them to HPCA. Wise suggestion, Alan! My overall impression: a short 30 minutes but which left me with a great, satisfied feeling. Do you want to take a 30 minutes mental rest from the rushing world, arrange to have Alan McKenzie take your picture! Remember, you can have a serious one taken along with a not so serious one, one you can send to a relative or a friend. One that has captured the essence of your personality and which the recipient would enjoy receiving.
